What is the objective?
The objective for this assignment was to create a personal poster based on a pre-chosen theme. Each person was given one week to make whatever they liked within the margins (16 X 20) and theme for that timeframe. After the initial critique, I was given the chance to make changes to the poster and improve on perceived issues with the piece.
Self
The first poster in the series was about the creators themselves. This poster took heavy inspiration from the Art Nouveau movement with its ornate flowery detailing and stand-out frames. Each panel was meant to represent some of my traditional artwork in a digital medium.
This was not only the first part of the Expressions series, but it was the first time I had drawn in this style using a digital medium. This presented a number of challenges and the week given was barely enough time for me to complete the assignment in time.

The picture is a self-portrait. I am holding my favourite feather pen while surrounded by motifs of my favourite works.
Nature
The second poster was on the theme of nature. The idea behind this was to represent the fact that nature is hardly separate from people. Rather than drawing a landscape, I wanted to demonstrate the idea of a bartender selling bits of nature to the viewer. Bottles filled with life lining on her shelf and the idea is that nature is both within and without the viewer.

It was during the creation of this piece that I really began to push my capabilities for drawing digitally. I am normally a traditional illustrator using pen and ink, so using this style in a completely different medium was a challenge. It was during this piece that I overcame that challenge and became comfortable with the project process.
Chaos
The third and final poster was created with the theme of chaos. This piece was the most difficult to work on simply due to the theme. Representing chaos in a non-obvious way was difficult to work around.
Regardless, I chose to represent my own form of chaos through the lens of someone with ADHD. The world is a jumble of flowing streams of thoughts. Fuzzy and ethereal, my view of the world is hard to parse and therefore it can sometimes feel as if my head were on fire. This is why the man at the bottom is harassed by rabbits and seems sadly accepting of his fate.
