The largest commission I have done. This was a 30 X 40 illustration on illustration board completed with pen and ink. Over the course of the year, over one hundred hours of work went into the largest piece I had made until that point.

I was tasked with completing this work in a loose timeframe, and I was given the freedom to choose whichever subject I wanted. The challenge for this project was living up to such an open concept. Numerous thumbnail sketches were made before the large-scale sketch was enacted. Even at that point and time, the concept was still very much under development.
The woman sits behind her companion, looking passively across their shared cliff. A closed book lay at her side.

I had never drawn figures so large before. It was a challenge to work with the proportions as well as discover the patterns that would adorn them. The man was particularly interesting to draw and I am very happy with how he turned out.
As you can see, I have a lot of patience. This kind of work is deeply connected to my self-expression as an artist. The countless spirals and circles fill me with a sense of calm as the project slowly comes together.

This also means that cameras do not like to catch everything. The lines blur and bend together despite the camera quality involved. While frustrating, I cannot deny that there is a flash of pride knowing that my work inevitably benefits from being seen in person rather than online or through a lense.
